Arrhythmic Suite
Odalis Valdivieso
Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition by Venezuelan-born, Miami-based artist, Odalis Valdivieso at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Museum of Art + Design (MOA+D), Arrhythmic Suite unites four bodies of work printed on different paper stocks as a reference to the artist’s textural explorations.
Repetition is at the heart of Valdivieso’s practice. Surfaces are worked and reworked in a manner that could be repeated infinitely. The reproduced artworks are organized in such a way as to create a sequence with a “loopy” rhythm. An essay by writer and curator Federica Bueti is woven through the whole publication, set in an extremely large font and printed on heavier, purple paper. The loose sheets are held together in a hardback cahier by an elastic band stretched over the spine. The different materials and the almost open structure suggest that the collection itself is an intermediate state and allows the reader to intervene.
