Marianne Brandt Award
Marianne Brandt, whose work combined aesthetics and functionality, was one of the best-known female artists of the Bauhaus in Weimar and Dessau. Launched in 2001 in her hometown Chemnitz (Germany) and held every three years, the International Marianne Brandt Award celebrates the creative legacy of Marianne Brandt and and the ideas of the Bauhaus. Along its motto ‘The Poetry of the Functional,’ it supports works that aim to explore the potential for poetry and simplicity in contemporary design.
Central to the visual identity and website is a design language built on a strong, engaging typography, as well as a clean visual and structural balance. Divided into three main sections — an archive of the previous years, the current award and an introduction to its history and legacy —, functionality is key underpinned by the use of bold colors.
