Josef Trattner
Sofa Journeys is a book series by artist Josef Trattner who has been traveling through Europe with his red foam sofa. It provides a platform where the artist engages with different guests in conversations and inspires them to write about their encounters. The otherwise settled and sedentary piece of furniture thus mutates into a nomadic motif, straying through both the cities and the texts.
Each title in the series addresses a different country. We developed a design which is consistent for each edition, using different shades of red for the cover and some of the text sections to differentiate between the titles in the series. We chose for a rather subtle title typography and designed a fluid page layout that already starts on the front cover and flows from there into the book. Introduced by a visual overview at the beginning, the image sequences are laid out dynamically and invite the reader to embark on a journey through the book.
