#Streetlogic
Jeroen Arians
Rotterdam-based photographer Jeroen Arians documents everyday objects that people leave behind on the street before they are picked up by waste collectors or other residents. With his images originally made for Instagram, Arians captures the fleeting character of a moment. #Streetlogic is a collection of numerous everyday items and household goods that tell us something about the street as a public space, but also about our relationship with things we no longer value.
The 250 images are divided into clusters of objects that logically follow one another, interrupted at the very heart of the book by an essay of writer Teun van den Ende on the relationship of urban beauty and the clean city.
The design and materiality of this small pocket-size publication resonates with the underlying theme. Just as the objects in Arian’s photos sometimes get a second life, we have opted for recycled paper: the text is printed on GF Smith Extract, a khaki-green colored paper made from disposable coffee cups. The cover is printed on Cairn Eco Kraft, a recycled paper with a subtly different colored front and back. Due to the light paper weight, the book feels easy to leaf through, and the OTA-binding ensures that the book can open out flat. The title is printed on a sticker that is randomly placed onto the seal. Once removed, the book belongs to you, and hence its condition has changed from new to used.
